19 Jul Face Of Hope: Chris
This is Chris. He thought he had it all…money, a great job, wife, and kids. However, his whole world turned upside down after his divorce. He began drinking heavily and stopped showing up for work. He also was prevented from seeing his kids which led him into deeper depression and alcohol abuse. “I thought I had a grasp on life, but it all fell apart. I just gave up”.
After bouncing around for a while from city to city and different states, he eventually settled in Cincinnati where he moved in with a prostitute. He started playing in a death-metal band and dabbling in Satanism. “I thought it was glamorous,” Chris said, “but it was a snake pit.” As he continued drowning his sorrows in alcohol, his life kept crumbling. One day, he found himself alone in an apartment with no food or electricity. He had no job or car. His journey had finally brought him to the lowest point in his life, much like the prodigal son. When he looked at his problems and the way in which he was living, Chris cried out to God, “You win. I’m at the end of my rope. Will you give me a chance?”
God did indeed give Chris a chance. A concerned Christian friend had been telling Chris along the way about his need for a Savior who could give him a new life. Though there was much resistance, Chris finally responded by giving his heart to Jesus! Although he finally was able to leave his old life behind, it came after his sister told him he could no longer stay at her house here in Indianapolis. On the streets and alone, Chris desperately needed help. That’s when he found himself on the doorsteps of Good News Ministries. Chris initially recoiled from the discipline of the program, but eventually found a sense of self-esteem after getting back into the rhythm of working. He currently serves the Lord at Good News working in our Small Parts Assembly facility until God reveals Chris’ next step. Chris’ faith has grown tremendously since entering our program a year and a half ago. He has been sober for over 18 months and is faithfully attending a local church on his own where he was recently baptized! “I went full force with God and I’m not looking back!”
