School is in!

We are very thankful that our 9-month residential Academy at The Good News Boys Home is fully operational again after closing last year due to COVID-19. We had our first day of school on August 23rd with 5 students enrolled and a sixth expected, pending travel accommodations from Florida. Our current five are all young men who recently graduated from the 40-Day Summer Challenge and want to continue growing as godly young men. Several of our students had their academics thrown off course by the online schooling implemented in the pandemic. Brenden, 17, received a total of 2 high school credits during his 11th grade year in public school, which was completely done as online learning. Chris, 15, had a 1.37 GPA during his first year at public high school which was also completely online. Good News Academy is looking forward to giving these young men the personal, in-class instruction and one-on-one attention they desperately need to succeed.

We are also thanking God for two new staff members He has provided. Caleb, our full-time teacher, worked at the Boys Home as a counselor at the 40-Day Summer Challenge in 2016. After serving as a police officer in Virginia since 2017, he felt called to move here and serve at the Boys Home. Rob was hired in August after hearing about our need for a Dorm Supervisor through his church. Rob grew up on the mission field in South Korea and later moved to the United States where he attended Indiana Baptist College. He is serving as our Dorm Supervisor and also as a part-time teacher. Both of our new hires have a heart for our ministry and are excellent additions to the Boys Home staff.

The Lord has greatly blessed the Boys Home and we are very excited to see what He will do in the lives of these teens over the next nine months. Please keep the students and staff in your prayers as we continue to provide hope through Christ to the hopeless.
