Servants of All

Servanthood was on full display when a Christian service group spent a week with us performing volunteer work and sharing the love of Christ at our Boys Home and Youth Center.

Seven young men from International Air Land Emergency Resource Team (ALERT) Academy cleared damaged trees and brush left by recent severe storms, repaired four-wheeler trails and fixed bicycles at the Boys Home. Later in the week they helped stuff and hide over 750 eggs for our Youth Center’s big Easter Sunday celebration!

ALERT teams serve Good News at least once per year. Based in Texas, the intense, military-style Christian discipleship and training program prepares high school graduates for future ministry opportunities.

“The ALERT guys are always a huge blessing to us,” said Kurt, Boys Home Director. “They are Godly young men who share their testimonies and give our boys a vision of what the next phase of life could look like.”

Boys Home Academy students Andre and Kyle said they were inspired by the work ethic of the ALERT group and their commitment to Christ. “They are calm and collected and easy to talk to,” said Andre. “After they left I started to set a higher standard for myself.”

Kyle said he enjoyed working alongside them, clearing brush and cutting trees for firewood. “We talked about future plans and what it’s like being at ALERT and stuff like that.”

ALERT members likewise enjoyed interacting with Boys Home students and staff. “I’ve been really impressed by the ministry and care the staff have for the boys,” said Ethan. “That’s 11 boys whose lives have been majorly changed.”

We’re thankful for the example ALERT sets each time they visit Good News!
