Beauty From Ashes
Olabode never expected a short trip to the United States to become a permanent stay. But nine years ago, while visiting from Nigeria, her home country unraveled. The government collapsed. The economy plunged into crisis. Terror attacks escalated. In the middle of it all, Olabode lost her job with Nigeria’s state-owned power company. It wasn’t safe to return. “I had no choice but to stay,” she said.
With no health insurance and only occasional work to make ends meet, Olabode faced a new kind of uncertainty—how to care for her health in a foreign country. Then a friend told her about the Good News Health Clinic. “That changed everything,” she said.
For more than two years now, the Clinic has been a lifeline. Olabode receives treatment for high blood pressure and chronic inflammation in her joints—care she wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. “The doctors, the nurses, everyone—they really care,” she said. “They’re friendly, they understand, and they love what they do.”
Her connection to the Clinic runs deeper than medicine. As a believer, she feels at home among a team that prays with patients and points them to hope. “They believe in God. I believe in God. That means a lot to me.”
Olabode says she’s thankful for the chance to rebuild her life in the U.S.—and for the people who’ve helped her stay healthy along the way. “Good News—I love it,” she said. “I would recommend it to anyone.”
