Faith, and a Bright Future
If you met China today, you’d see a quiet, upbeat 21-year-old man with a kind smile. But behind that smile is a powerful story of faith, struggle and renewed purpose.
Adopted from Ethiopia at age seven by missionary parents, China spent his childhood traveling the world. But when his adoptive parents returned to the U.S. for medical care, life changed. Though China had given his life to Christ as a boy, he battled anxiety and depression—challenges that eventually cost him his job, his housing, and his first real sense of stability.
China tried different programs, hoping to find a place to heal and rebuild. That’s when he met Dewey—a former Good News Men’s Shelter resident now turned Purposeful Design department leader—who encouraged him to come to Good News Ministries. “This place is a moving place,” China says. “You don’t just sit and wait. You get up, work and learn. God wants us to do something.”
Now, China is thriving. He meets regularly with his counselor, diving into the book of John and applying Scripture to his life. “I can tell the Holy Spirit is helping me,” he says. “Reading the Bible is changing my life.”
China was recently awarded a scholarship to help with his study of Pharmaceuticals at Purdue University. With support from Good News Ministries, he now has reliable transportation to class and is excited to begin this new journey. “I love studying how cells work—it shows God’s design.”
Through it all, China’s faith has kept him anchored. “God works through people’s lives,” he says. “We all have stories. Trust Him—He can do great things through you.”
China’s journey from homelessness to Purdue is a testament to what God can do. Thank you for supporting counseling, care and a Christ-centered community through Good News Ministries for those who need it most.
