Family Life

Before Sha’Coy joined the Boys Home program in 2014, he was a troubled teen caught up with the wrong crowd in an area of Indianapolis that had a strong gang presence. Life on the streets hardened him. With his single mom struggling to provide for the family, Sha’Coy went willingly to the Boys Home so she wouldn’t have to feed him.

Not long after arriving, Sha’Coy heard the Gospel and made the life-changing decision to follow Christ. The transformation in him was bold and immediate. In front of his peers, including two young men from the same neighborhood gang, Sha’Coy stood up and declared that he was finished with that life and ready to live for Jesus! It was not an easy decision; he knew it could cost him friendships and even put his safety at risk. But Sha’Coy’s courage became a powerful witness of God’s grace, inspiring others to consider a different path.

Today, Sha’Coy is thriving as a husband and father. Married for 8 years, he and his wife are raising two children—a daughter (7) and a son (2). He is intentional about providing them with the stability and love he once longed for. He works at Reflectix Inc., a specialty insulation manufacturing company near his home in Anderson, where he faithfully provides for his family.

Looking back, Sha’Coy is quick to point to the role the Boys Home played in his life, “At the Boys Home, I started to see what I could be instead of where I was headed. The men there became like fathers to me. They didn’t just tell me right from wrong, they explained why it mattered. Now I aspire to live morally, even when people around me don’t. Good News shaped me into the man I am with a better head on my shoulders. What I learned there — about faith, about direction — is what I’m now teaching my own kids.”

Sha’Coy’s story is a testimony to God’s transforming power, and a reminder of the eternal impact that happens each year at our Boys Home. It offers so much more than just shelter and education; it provides structure, accountability and spiritual guidance so teens can grow into the men God wants them to be.
