STILL A Faithful Servant

Even in retirement, longtime nurse Becky Evans continues to serve faithfully at Good News Ministries. From her early days of starting the Health Clinic to now, her heart for the men in our shelter has never wavered. That care was recently shown in a powerful way.

Ron, a veteran and longtime resident of our Men’s Shelter, has no family and nowhere else to turn. Years of alcohol addiction left him with broken relationships and declining health, but he never complains. Ask how he’s doing, and he’ll say, “I’m doing okay.”

Becky saw through that. When she noticed his health slipping, she stepped in. She asked Ron some questions, drove him to the VA emergency room, waited with him for hours, and advocated for every concern to be addressed. That’s when he was diagnosed with cancer that may require the removal of his bladder.

Homelessness often teaches men like Ron to push through pain and avoid seeking help. But Becky’s compassion broke through those walls. She is continuing to help him — even assisting with wound care after a procedure.

Becky and all the nurses and doctors in our Health Clinic model the love of Christ with every act of service. If you’re a nurse — retired or practicing — and have a heart to serve, we’d love to have you join us. Your skills could make all the difference for someone like Ron. Reach out to learn how you can help.
