Can’t Steal Her Joy
Eight times Jean has been the target of robbery, and survived. A ninth attempt was thwarted by the Good News Health Clinic. That culprit — high blood pressure — threatened to rob Jean of her health. Thankfully, volunteer doctors and nurses at Good News arrested Jean’s hypertension.
The 64-year-old grandmother has been coming to Good News for primary care for about five years. “They are very nice here, and very accommodating,” Jean said.
Like many who receive healthcare at Good News, Jean lost her health insurance. She works part-time cleaning offices but cannot afford to purchase health coverage. At Good News, she not only receives regular blood pressure checks but also routine blood sugar tests and treatment for a toe condition. Jean is on
four prescription drugs, which she receives at the Good News pharmacy. Like all clinic services, her visits and medications are free. Jean discovered Good News after driving past the clinic on the way to work. After passing by several times she decided to stop and check it out. She was warmly welcomed and soon became a regular patient.
Had she not moved to a different neighborhood, she might never have known about Good News. Her move was precipitated by a rash of robbery attempts she experienced living on the city’s east side. Today, Jean is happy to be living in a safer place and thankful for the care she receives at Good News.
