Simple Test, Profound Hope

Veronica is thankful for her good health and credits the Good News Health Clinic for helping her maintain it.
Age 44 and a native of Nigeria, Veronica works as a caregiver but has no health insurance. She was among 15 women who received free mammograms earlier this month through our
partnership with Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. The breast screenings took place inside their pink and white mobile unit, which we schedule every spring as part of our Women’s Clinic.
Our Health Clinic Coordinator said, “We have been bringing the mobile unit to our location since 2016. We usually host one event per year, but in 2024 we will have them come twice due to the increasing number of uninsured patients needing the service.”
If a breast cancer screening comes back abnormal, we assist the women with follow-up testing. Should a woman then receive a cancer diagnosis, we help them apply for health insurance or other programs that will cover surgery and treatment. Last year our Health Clinic assisted in providing 220 cancer screenings!
Mammograms are just one of many services Veronica receives at our Clinic. She began coming for primary care last year and is comforted to know that our staff and volunteer medical professionals are here for her, especially since they are Christ followers.
“I am a Christian and I believe in God,” she said. “I pray that God will bless them. They are really doing a great job in order to help us in the time of need, in the time of trouble. Anytime when you think there is no hope, they give you hope.”
