A Life Restored

Tony is a true example of what the Good News Ministries Men’s Shelter is all about–bringing restoration though the hope found in Jesus Christ. He came to us a bruised and battered man 11 years ago and his life was wrecked by drugs and alcohol. Because of his addictions he had lost everything, including a good job as a drywall construction worker. With no place to turn Tony went to a local mission for shelter but he was beaten up by another man that was staying there. When he left that facility and arrived at Good News, not only was his face bloody and bruised but he was at the end of his rope.

That day we provided Tony with a safe place to stay, a warm bed to sleep in, a hearty meal to fill his stomach and medical care for his wounds. More importantly, we shared the Gospel and the love of Christ with a man who had lost all hope. Shortly after coming to Good News, Tony came forward during an invitation at one of our chapel services and trusted Christ as his Savior. He was so excited to tell our Men’s Shelter Chaplain about his salvation decision! Tony began to attend church regularly and got baptized. Through a strong relationship with Christ, he has overcome the addictions that gripped his life and no longer desires the things of this world.

Tony has been a very hard worker since he came to Good News Ministries and has helped with various projects at both our main campus and Boys Home property. As he advanced through our recovery program and proved himself trustworthy, Tony was able to move into a private room in the Men’s Shelter and earn a stipend as a client staff member. For the past several years he has managed our Woodshop, which builds and stains cedar mailbox posts as part of our Small Parts Assembly job-training program.

Because of Tony’s steady progress and hard work over the years, he was recently invited to join our staff as a regular full-time employee and also moved into his own apartment on our campus! Tony is a faithful member of his church, loves the Lord and enjoys working at Good News. He takes opportunities to share the love of Christ with other men that come to our Shelter in need. Please pray that Tony will continue to do well and grow in his faith.
