Mission of Mercy

Mercy has worked hard all her life. Too hard, in fact. That became clear during her first appointment at our Health Clinic four years ago.

“I was doing two jobs but the stress was too much for me,” she said. “The doctor told me I needed to reduce the stress so my blood pressure would come down.” Along with hypertension Mercy also had developed an ulcer.

Those twin stress-related problems are now under control through the care and medications she’s receiving at the clinic. She’s also working just one job now, as a caregiver. Mercy said she’s thankful for the care she, her husband and teenage daughter receive through Good News. Neither her job nor her husband’s delivery job comes with health insurance.

Mercy moved to the United States 12 years ago from her native Nigeria. She and her husband came to America to make a better life for themselves and their daughter. Like many of our clinic patients, they are able to make ends meet but cannot afford health coverage. At Good News they receive regular checkups and medications free of charge.

Clinic staff and volunteers also pray for and share scripture with patients when requested. “That is why I love this place, because they are a Christian ministry that is doing everything for God,” Mercy said.
